JIM NORTON
Candidate for Port Saint Lucie City Council, District 3
Originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Jim Norton relocated to Florida in 1980 to attend the University of Miami. He earned a football scholarship as the Head Student Equipment Manager and was a proud member of the 1983 National Championship football team under Coach Howard Schnellenberger. Jim also earned an MBA from Florida International University.
Following graduation, Jim embarked on a successful career in publishing, holding executive roles as Vice President and Publisher for Fortune 500 companies in the penny saver and community newspaper industries. Alongside his wife, Candy, Jim co-founded the Lifestyle Magazine Group, which expanded to six titles before they sold the business after a decade of success. In 2015, the couple transitioned to the real estate sector and are now Senior Directors of Luxury Sales with Douglas Elliman.
Jim has been a Director for the Florida Association of Realtors® for the past five years and has concurrently served as a Governor/Director for the local board of Realtors®.
In 2021, Jim and Candy made Port Saint Lucie’s Valencia Riverland community their home. They have since helped numerous former clients, friends, and family members make the move to the area as well.
Jim brings valuable municipal experience from his two terms as a City Commissioner in Weston, Florida. During his tenure, he successfully maintained the lowest mileage rate in the state, developed parks, and ensured world-class services. His dedication to public safety contributed to Weston being recognized as the safest small city in the nation. Additionally, Jim served as a Director for the Florida and Broward League of Cities, fostering strong relationships with other elected officials.
Currently, Jim serves as Vice Chair of the Port Saint Lucie Planning and Zoning Board, granting him in-depth knowledge of the city’s development and comprehensive plan. He is also actively involved in various local community organizations.
A dedicated Rotarian for over 30 years, Jim has held numerous leadership roles, including serving as President and Governor for Rotary International (2007-08). He is also a committed supporter and board member of several charitable organizations, including the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, YMCA, Honor Flight South Florida, Tunnel to Towers, ASPCA, American Cancer Society, and Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Jim Norton’s extensive experience and dedication to community service make him a strong advocate for the future growth and prosperity of Port Saint Lucie.
